For many people, the idea of breathing underwater feels like something out of a dream. At Oceans 5 Gili Air, that dream becomes reality every single day. Through our Discover Scuba Diving Program, also known as a Try Dive, we offer you the chance to experience the magic of the ocean for the very first time. What makes us different is our philosophy: no rushing, no pressure—just patient instruction and a safe, enjoyable introduction to the underwater world.

A Gentle Start: Understanding the Basics

Every Discover Scuba Diving Program at Oceans 5 begins with a relaxed introduction to the fundamentals of diving. Instead of overwhelming you with complicated theory, our experienced instructors explain the basics in a way that is easy to understand. You’ll learn how scuba equipment works, the importance of breathing continuously, and how to communicate underwater. This foundation ensures that even before entering the water, you feel comfortable and prepared.

Unlike dive centers that rush through this step in ten minutes, we take the time needed. Our goal isn’t to get you in the water as fast as possible—it’s to make sure you feel confident and ready for what’s next.

Building Confidence in the Pool

After the theory session, it’s time to move to the pool. Here, in a calm and controlled environment, you’ll practice a few essential skills. Breathing underwater for the first time can feel unusual, and that’s why we never hurry you.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Breathe slowly and comfortably through your regulator.

  • Practice simple skills like clearing your mask or recovering your regulator.

  • Get used to the sensation of moving underwater with your equipment.

The pool session is not about checking boxes—it’s about building confidence. Our instructors stay close by, encouraging you at every step. Whether you need ten minutes or an hour, we give you the time you need.

The Big Step: Diving in the Ocean

Once everyone is happy and confident in the pool, it’s time for the highlight of the program: the ocean dive. With your instructor by your side, you’ll descend into the crystal-clear waters surrounding Gili Air. The dive goes to a maximum depth of 12 meters, perfect for beginners yet deep enough to explore the incredible marine life of the Gili Islands.

One of the most memorable moments for many first-time divers is seeing a sea turtle gliding gracefully through the water. Around Gili Air, spotting turtles is very likely, along with colorful reef fish and vibrant corals. For many, this first dive isn’t just about learning a new skill—it’s about experiencing a connection with the ocean that stays with you forever.
